Chicago Scriptworks: the organization that Matthew Green talked about that is often seeking screenplays for actors to read in front of audiences.
Independent Writers of Chicago (iwoc): this site will provide you with an extensive set of professional standards to help guide you through the process. The site covers a number of issues, such as how to negotiate written agreements, terms of payment, and contracts, as well as information about how to calculate and keep track of your expenses for tax purposes. LitLine: Website for the Independent Literary Community: includes articles, links to other resource sites, journals, presses, organizations, bookstores, and much more.
Gaper’s Block: a trendy Chicago webzine that is always looking for contributors.
University of Chicago Career Advising and Planning: tips for interviews and informational interviews.
Game Writer’s Special Interest Group: a ton of information for those interested in writing for games.
The Complete Nobody’s Guide to Query Letters: by Lynn Flewelling at the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. website.
Social Networking for Screenwriters: a very short article with great links that will help screenwriters (and anyone else) learn how to utilize social networking skills for their career goals.
Creative Writing at Chicago: a helpful site put together by the University of Chicago listing all sorts of resources for fiction writers, poets, nonfiction writers, etc.
