Attention Students:

This forum is for my Spring, 2007 Writer’s Portfolio class. A category will be assigned for each week for journal posting and/or assignments, as necessary.
You are responsible for WRITING AT LEAST ONE SUBSTANTIAL JOURNAL REFLECTION onto this forum EACH WEEK, in response to your readings, portfolio work, assigned projects, events, etc.
Categories are also posted to this site for your reference, to help with your readings, class discussions, and general reflection, as you go through this course. You are encouraged to utilize this resource, as well as add to it and/or make suggestions for new resources as you come across them. * Adding additional resources will be looked upon favorably, when the time comes to turn in final grades, and could be particularly useful for those who may need an extra boost at the end of the semester (hint, hint). HOWEVER, adding websites and resources WILL NOT replace your required weekly journal responses.
If you are experiencing problems with this online discussion board, please inform me immediately.

I am interested in learning more about:
1) Other Voices, the lit mag from UIC that Gina Frangello edits
Other Voices
The University of Illinois at Chicago
Department of English (M/C 162)
601 South Morgan Street
Chicago, Illinois 60607
(312)413-2209
The editors:
Gina Frangello, Marina Lewis and Kathy Kosmeja
othervoices@listserv.uic.edu
I think it would be interesting to discuss with her how she got to be an editor, how she feels about editing in addtion to her writing, and how much time her work consumes.
2)Browne and Miller Lit agency
410 South Michigan Ave, suite 460
312-922-3063
http://www.browneandmiller.com
I’ve actually already spoken to Joanna Mackenzie, but it wasn’t about being an agent. It was about writing and how to be published. I think an agent is an interesting choice, and now I wish I’d asked better questions.
3)The Reader
Chicago Reader, Inc., 11 East Illinois Street, Chicago, IL 60611
312-828-0350
Alison True: editor
web: http://www.chicagoreader.com
I think, and I read that I’m not alone, that the reader is a good fall back as well as interesting place to publish things that might not make it elsewhere. Not fiction, but articles or reviews. I’d be willing to try that.
